Job description

Head of HSE

Lead the strategy. Shape the culture. Raise the standard.

We're looking for an exceptional Head of HSE to take the lead in shaping our health, safety and environmental agenda and make a visible, lasting impact across the business.

You’ll be the driving force behind our HSE strategy — partnering with senior leaders, operations, projects and our wider teams to create an organisation where safety, health and environmental responsibility are embedded in everything we do.

If you're a strategic HSE leader who knows how to turn standards into action, influence at senior level and build a genuinely proactive safety culture, this is an opportunity to make your mark.

Benefits for the role include:-

  • 37 hours per week - 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 4pm finish on a Friday. Flexi-time is available.
  • 10% management incentive bonus based on company performance
  • 25 days holidays and 8 bank holidays
  • 5% salary sacrifice pension
  • Private healthcare and 2x base salary life assurance
Your mission

You’ll develop and deliver our corporate HSE strategy, translating business objectives into clear goals, meaningful KPIs and measurable improvement.

You’ll lead the continual development of our HSE management systems, ensuring we remain compliant, forward-thinking and aligned with best practice — while making sure HSE is an integral part of operational and project decision-making.

You’ll provide trusted, expert advice to senior management and challenge the business when needed.

Most importantly, you’ll help create a culture where doing the right thing isn’t simply a requirement — it’s how we operate.

What you’ll lead
  • Own and deliver the corporate HSE strategy and annual objectives.
  • Establish ambitious HSE goals, KPIs and improvement plans.
  • Drive continual improvement across our HSE management systems and champion a proactive, engaged and accountable safety culture.
  • Provide strategic HSE advice to senior management.
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE legislation, regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain our ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
  • Keep the business ahead of emerging legislative and regulatory requirements and lead regulatory inspections, audits and external assessments.
Risk & Operational Excellence
  • Lead effective risk management across operations and projects.
  • Challenge significant operational and project risks and ensure robust mitigation is in place.
  • Partner with operational teams to embed HSE into projects, processes and everyday decision-making.
  • Oversee contractor and supplier HSE performance.
Incident Leadership
  • Lead the investigation of significant incidents, near misses and environmental events.
  • Ensure rigorous root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
  • Identify trends and turn lessons learned into preventative improvements.
  • Provide clear, timely reporting to senior management and regulators where required.
People & Leadership
  • Lead, coach and develop the HSE function, including direct leadership of the HSE Manager.
  • Build HSE capability throughout the organisation through training, mentoring and engagement.
Environment & Sustainability
  • Lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
  • Drive improvements in environmental performance, waste reduction and carbon reduction and embed responsible environmental practices throughout our operations.
What you’ll bring

We're looking for a confident, credible HSE professional who can operate comfortably at both strategic and operational level.

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety management systems.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate and Environmental Management qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment and safe systems of work.
  • Experience across manufacturing, projects and facilities HSE environments.
  • Expertise in ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • HSE performance analysis, reporting and continuous improvement capability.
And it would be even better if you have…
  • NEBOSH Diploma(s) in Occupational Health & Safety and/or Environmental Management.
  • A BSc in EHS Management.
  • ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification.
  • A Lead Auditor and/or project management qualification.
