Reports to: Head of Home Underwriting & Pricing

Location: Bexhill/Leicester – open to homeworking with willingness to travel to Bexhill and Leicester on occasion

Role overview

To deliver our profit and growth targets for home, through the use of innovative analytics, which leads to segmented pricing changes that we can apply to our live rates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analysing various data sources (including loss, policy, quote and market data), to identify opportunities to improve our risk pricing to help deliver the ambitious growth targets we have for our Hastings home business
  • Developing & delivering new insight, including the integration of new data, new innovative techniques and ways of working
  • Working closely with Actuarial, Data Science, Underwriting, Data Engineering, Account Management, Retail and Counter Fraud / Digital teams
  • Critically review technical models produced by actuaries and data scientists
  • Analyse the above models to determine the optimal way to combine these model outputs to give a starting point for our pricing
  • Analyse the models to identify segments where prices can be improved
  • Create tools that enable us to source new pricing leads on an automated basis
  • Own the overall pricing algorithm for home
  • Representing the home team on various underwriting projects to generate value for the wider business
  • Support the team through peer reviews, coaching and mentoring
  • Ensure that we are meeting customers' fair and reasonable expectations and provide fair outcomes for our customers.
  • Band 4, with 1 direct report, but role expected to grow as the home business and the team grows
Essential skills/experience
  • Strong numeric and problem solving skills
  • Strong Analysis and coding experience. Python preferred, but if experience is with other coding languages then this can be trained up
  • Comfortable working with and analysing numerical/statistical data
  • Appetite to learn new skills
