Senior Healthcare Support Worker - Standish Ward

We are seeking a Senior Healthcare Support Worker to work on Standish Ward.

You are required to have NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social care or the care certificate to be eligible to apply for this role. You will be asked to provide evidence of your qualifications at interview and pre employment checking stage.

We will be looking for enthusiasm, drive and passion where the delivery of outstanding levels of care can be nurtured. You will have excellent communication skills and the flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of this busy area.

The successful candidate will be efficient, reliable and be able to work using their own initiative whilst being part of a team. You will be a motivated and confident healthcare assistant dedicated to assisting in the delivery and the development of an excellent service.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.

Senior Healthcare Support Workers work independently performing a number of clinical duties/tasks following training and meeting competency within role as per policy and procedure.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
  • Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
  • Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
  • Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
  • Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.
  • Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patients health and well-being or any possible risks.
  • Undertake observations/tasks such as patient temperature, weighing, fluid checks as directed.
  • Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
  • Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.
  • Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities.

  • Ability to deal with people from all backgrounds.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English Language and Maths A to C or 4 -9 or functional skills or equivalent.
  • Effective level of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • NVQ 2 Health and Social Care or Care Certificate.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or willing to undertake an apprenticeship in Senior Healthcare Support Worker.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of supporting patients and their families.
Additional
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
  • Willingness to train and develop.
  • Ability to work in challenging situations.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Health & Safety including Risk Assessment procedures as application to role/environment.
