A unique opportunity has arisen to join our specialist Inpatient Ward team as a Senior Healthcare Assistant on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

This is a special role where you will support and implement the delivery of nursing care to patients under the direction of a registered professional in a clinical setting.

The Inpatient Ward provides care for patients and their loved ones so they can hopefully feel well enough to go home again or stay for end‑of‑life care. Our ward is dedicated to caring for people with palliative and end‑of‑life needs.

Key Information

• Position covers maternity leave for a staff member who works predominantly night shifts with occasional rotation onto day shifts.
• 35 hours per week; pay based on hours. Night shifts receive £15 night allowance per night worked.
• Flexible working required: evenings, weekends and nights as part of the nursing rota.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work to the standards set out in the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers, supporting and implementing nursing care in a team and under the direction of a registered professional.

St John’s Hospice is a well‑established local charity offering free palliative care to patients with life‑shortening conditions both in our Inpatient Ward Unit and through our Community Services (Hospice at Home). Our ward provides short‑stay care from days to weeks, depending on the patient’s needs.

Our ward is led by an experienced and supportive management team, and you will play a key role in providing crucial care to patients and their loved ones.
