Acute Oncology Health Care Assistant (Band 3, Full Time, 37.5 hrs per week) – Join the Acute Oncology team at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to support the smooth operation of the Acute Oncology Service and PICC line service.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will provide high‑quality, safe and compassionate care under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals. Your work will involve assisting both nursing and non‑nursing tasks, delivering holistic care to haematology and oncology day‑case and outpatient patients, monitoring acute symptoms, and supporting the implementation of the new PICC line service.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the set up and organisation of the PICC line service under guidance.
  • Understand and assist in scheduling and ringing patients to confirm appointment times, providing administrative support to the AOS service and cancer centre reception as required.
  • Cover outpatient reception as needed, including checking in and out of patient appointments, scheduling and taking calls, and liaising with outpatient and day‑case areas on patient appointments.
  • Welcome patients and relatives to the clinic/unit and facilitate their progress through the system.
  • Perform phlebotomy, record blood pressures, pulse, temperature, respirations, and oxygen saturations – escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Act as a chaperone when requested.
  • Maintain patient and visitor safety while in the department.
  • Promote a professional and caring environment for patients and visitors attending the department.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the preparation required to run a clinical session.
  • Assist senior nursing staff in ensuring all clinical equipment is kept in good working order and ready to use.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties such as tidying the department and maintaining set stock levels.
  • Undertake supervised training to gain appropriate skills within the department.
  • Attend in‑service and other training sessions as required, including Health and Safety or moving and handling of patients or loads.
  • Carry out basic nursing tasks as required.
