Senior Health & Safety Advisor

Project-based role with travel across regional sites
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation, supporting major projects across the North West.
This is a senior, hands‑on Health & Safety role working closely with project teams, SHEQ colleagues and clients to support safe project delivery, maintain high standards and promote a positive health and safety culture across the region.
You will report into the regional SHEQ leadership team and provide senior‑level advice and support across a number of construction and infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities
- Providing senior‑level Health & Safety advice and support to project and SHEQ teams
- Supporting the management of SHEQ risk across construction projects
- Promoting a positive, proactive and consistent Health & Safety culture
- Supporting the development and implementation of policies, procedures, management systems and risk controls
- Organising and supporting internal and external Health & Safety and SHEQ audits
- Conducting and supporting accident and incident investigations
- Working closely with project teams to understand operational risks and day‑to‑day site challenges
- Advising project teams on compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations
- Working collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders on Health & Safety matters
- Supporting SHEQ assurance activities across the project lifecycle & Identifying opportunities to improve Health & Safety performance
- Analysing performance data and identifying trends, risks and areas for improvement
- Supporting the maintenance of externally certified management systems
- Providing coaching, guidance and feedback to colleagues and managers
The role will involve travelling to project sites across the region as required.
Ideally you'll have
- Extensive Health & Safety experience within the construction sector
- Strong working knowledge of current UK Health & Safety legislation
- Detailed knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations - CDM
- Strong understanding of HSE guidance, Approved Codes of Practice and construction industry best practice
- Experience working with Health & Safety / SHEQ management systems such as ISO 45001
- Experience supporting or carrying out Health & Safety and SHEQ audits
- Experience conducting or supporting accident and incident investigations
- A recognised Occupational Health & Safety qualification, ideally NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- A construction‑related Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH Construction
- Membership of a recognised Health & Safety professional body at an appropriate level
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to advise and influence at senior level
- The ability to work collaboratively with project teams, clients and other stakeholders
- Good organisational and time management skills
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Confidence making decisions and recognising when issues should be escalated
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel across project sites within the region (full UK driving licence)
- Experience within the water, utilities or wider infrastructure sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
It would also be beneficial if you have
- Previous experience working as part of a SHEQ team
- Experience analysing Health & Safety performance data and identifying trends
- CSCS card and are Certified or Chartered membership of IOSH
