Job summary

Anglian Water is recruiting a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to lead a team of Safety Advisors across the Anglian Water region. You will drive safety performance, investigate incidents, and implement improvements in partnership with frontline managers.

The role requires NEBOSH qualifications, IOSH membership, and a track record in leadership. Hybrid working with about three days onsite per week, and a salary around £53k plus car allowance, supports wellbeing and development.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent required.
• IOSH membership (Tech IOSH/Cert IOSH/CMIOSH) preferred.
• NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum standard.
• Proven experience in team leadership and people management.
• Flexibility to respond to changing workload and customer needs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to handle challenging conversations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Line manage the Safety Advisor team and set objectives.
• Ensure performance processes, meetings, reviews, and one-to-ones are in place.
• Develop development plans for team members.
• Identify trends in safety performance and near-miss data.
• Review unit performance and provide improvement feedback.
• Support operational standdowns and training of front-line managers.
• Ensure safety audits and inspections are carried out and mitigations applied.
• Lead incident investigations and classify incidents accurately.

Due to the growth of our Safety Team, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join us and contribute to our mission of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

As a Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of the Safety Advisors and accountable for all aspects of people leadership, development, and performance management within your team. You will provide assurance on the quality of incident investigations, identify trends in incident data, and make recommendations to improve safety performance.

What you’ll be doing:

• Line manage the Safety Advisor team within your business unit.

• Implement immediate mitigation controls in the event of serious incidents.
• Support your team in incident investigations and ensure accurate classification of incidents.

What does it take to be successful?

• Ideally NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
• Member of IOSH (Tech IOSH/Cert IOSH/CMIOSH).
• NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum.
• Proven experience in team leadership and management.
• Flexible in responding to customer needs and changing workload demands.
• Ability to have challenging conversations and maintain positive stakeholder relationships under pressure.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Advanced computer skills, particularly in PowerPoint and Excel.
