Job summary

Matchtech invites applications for a Senior Hardware Technical Lead role in Farnborough, United Kingdom, to drive the unified hardware development lifecycle and CAD/simulation toolsets.

You will provide deep architectural guidance on electronic/mechanical integration and thermal management, oversee PCB/FPGA teams, and champion rigorous design reviews to deliver high-quality hardware for defence and security applications.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in hardware engineering and electronic design.
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Experience defining processes and toolsets across PCB, FPGA, and Mechanical disciplines.
  • Ability to implement governance and design review metrics across hardware ecosystems.
  • UK sole national status and ability to obtain UK security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Define and improve the hardware development lifecycle and CAD/simulation tools.
  • Provide architectural guidance for electronic/mechanical integration and thermal management.
  • Enforce quality standards and stage-gated peer reviews across PCB, Mechanical, and FPGA teams.
  • Lead, coach and support career development across the hardware engineering team.
  • Identify training needs, skills gaps, and recruitment requirements to meet business goals.
  • Lead electronic architecture design, schematic capture, high-speed digital boards, and PCB oversight.
  • Lead hardware design verification testing (DV).
  • Own the NPI hardware lifecycle and ensure smooth handovers to manufacturing.

Our client, a renowned player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Senior Hardware Technical Lead to join their team in Farnborough, United Kingdom. Key Responsibilities:
  • Define and improve the unified hardware development lifecycle and CAD/simulation toolsets.
  • Provide deep-dive architectural guidance focusing on electronic/mechanical integration and thermal management.
  • Enforce quality standards and stage-gated peer reviews across PCB, Mechanical, and FPGA teams.
  • Lead, coach, and support career development across the hardware engineering team.
  • Identify training needs, skills gaps, and recruitment requirements to meet business goals.
  • Lead detailed electronic architecture design, schematic capture, high-speed digital board design, and PCB layout oversight.
  • Spearhead rigorous hardware design verification (DV) testing.
  • Own the technical NPI hardware lifecycle, ensuring seamless handovers to manufacturing.
Job Requirements:
  • Extensive experience within the hardware engineering and electronic design domain.
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Experience defining processes and toolsets across PCB, FPGA, and Mechanical disciplines.
  • Ability to implement engineering governance and design review metrics across hardware ecosystems.
  • Must be a UK sole national and capable of obtaining UK security clearance.
Desirable Skills:
  • Familiarity with programmable logic integration and high-speed interfaces.
  • Knowledge of DFT and DFM methodologies.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and delivering electronic products tailored for defence, high-assurance, or aerospace applications.
  • Proven track record of coaching engineers to improve output quality without administrative heavy-handedness.
