Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is recruiting a hand therapist (OT or PT) based at Lister Hospital, Stevenage. The post offers a development from Band 5 to Band 6 for the right applicant, with responsibilities including advanced hand therapy assessment, splinting, and rehabilitation.

You will work in a multidisciplinary Musculoskeletal Service, performing autonomous practice with supervision, and contribute to audits and evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy with HCPC Registration.
  • NHS/Social Services post-registration experience covering 1/2 rotations.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to Hands; interest in hands injuries, splinting and rehabilitation.
  • Ability to establish excellent rapport with patients and the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Evidence of planning, delivering and evaluating OT/PT processes.
  • Knowledge of standardised assessment tools.
  • Ability to problem solve, set treatment goals and clinically reason.
  • Adaptable and flexible to meet service changes.

Job summary


The integrated Musculoskeletal Service is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic hand therapist ( OT or PT ) to join our hand therapy team based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.


A developmental from Band 5 to Band 6 will be considered for the right applicant.


The post holder will carry out assessment, intervention, including splinting and rehabilitation, and evaluation of hand therapy patients using a variety of tools and techniques.


Trauma referrals are received daily from hand clinics and Consultant teams within our Hand Therapy Unit. You will be seeing patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.


We are looking for sound clinical reasoning and communication skills, and an ability to work well within a team.


You will have regular informal/formal supervision with experienced senior therapists and will work as part of the wider community Musculoskeletal Service.


You must hold a full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job


Job Summary


To perform advanced assessment and treatment of hands and plastics patients including splinting and rehabilitation programmes


To assist in the formulation of clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner


To hold responsibility for own case load. Supervision taking the form of regular one to one sessions with the line manager, informal daily supervision, formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences and reflective practice. Access to advice and support from a senior hand therapist is available on a regular basis


To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to develop and enhance personal and team's clinical practice; to make suggestions to Clinical Lead/Head of Service for changes to practice by the team; to assist in the implementation of specific changes to practice; to contribute to the preparation of service protocols


To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner

Person Specification


Essential



  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy & HPC Registration
