Job summary

Arup is seeking an experienced ecologist with strong Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) expertise to join our national ecology team. You will lead HRA work across a diverse portfolio, collaborating with planners, environmental specialists and regulators across the UK and Ireland.

Acting as a technical authority, you will deliver high-quality assessments, mentor colleagues and help shape policy and practice as HRA evolves in planning reform and environmental policy.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• MCIEEM or equivalent registration.
• Strong experience preparing, reviewing and advising on HRA for plans and projects.
• Excellent understanding of Habitats Regulations, guidance and case law.
• Experience with planning, consenting and environmental assessment processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support HRA work across a diverse portfolio of projects.
• Collaborate with planners, SEA practitioners and regulators across the UK and Ireland.
• Deliver high-quality assessments and reviews for plans and projects.
• Mentor colleagues and contribute to technical excellence in HRA.
• Shape policy, practice and future approaches to HRA within Arup.
