Job summary

Wheely is seeking a Mid/Senior Backend Engineer to join our Mapping team in West London. You will write Go code, build new microservices, and help migrate legacy systems while maintaining performance.

Collaborate with product, design, and data science teams to deliver robust geospatial features, routing, and ETA accuracy. We value strong fundamentals and hands-on cloud experience in a fast-growing, globally expanding startup.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience (5+ for seniors) building scalable services.
• Go is used; strong fundamentals welcomed even if unfamiliar with the language.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience with message brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Hands-on mapping/geospatial data processing and map-matching is a plus.
• Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality Go code and implement new microservices.
• Migrate away from legacy services while keeping systems lean and maintainable.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and data scientists to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Ensure responsiveness under heavy load with low latency and high reliability.
