Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Edinburgh

Edinburgh (Hybrid – 2/3 days office)

£50,000 – £60,000 + Benefits + Progression

About the Role

I’m recruiting a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join a collaborative team delivering varied projects across energy, transportation, industrial, retail, residential, and commercial sectors. You’ll take ownership of analysis and design packages, guide junior engineers, and play a visible role in bids and client meetings. Clear routes exist for progression for engineers who are chartered and keen to keep growing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and synthesise ground investigation data to develop robust ground models and design parameters.
  • Deliver geotechnical analyses and design: pile design, settlement assessment, slope stability, retaining structures, and foundation solutions.
  • Review modelling outputs and challenge assumptions to drive quality and risk reduction.
  • Prepare technical notes, reports, and specs, and contribute to scopes and proposals.
  • Mentor graduates/juniors and support knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Support bids and business development, attending client and design meetings as required.
About You
  • Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology (MSc advantageous).
  • Chartered with ICE or Geological Society (or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to programme/budget.
  • Hands-on with relevant software: e.g. HoleBASE, SLIDE, Settle3D, WALLAP, or equivalents; confident with codes and standards.
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well across disciplines; clean driving licence.
