Senior Geotechnical Engineer

You’ll join a growing, well-established built environment consultancy where you can take real ownership of ground engineering deliverables, work across a varied UK and international portfolio, and have the backing to keep progressing professionally. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll benefit from a supportive hybrid set‑up (three office days per week), strong project variety, and a benefits package built around your wellbeing, flexibility and development.

This built environment consultancy helps clients improve the quality and sustainability of the places we live and work. With a large multi‑disciplinary team delivering thousands of projects annually, you’ll work alongside civil and structural colleagues and be part of a culture built around quality, ingenuity, partnership and aspiration.

Key Deliverables
  • Drafting Ground Investigation Reports (geotechnical elements)
  • Proof of concept checks
  • Mining legacy assessments and specifying mitigation measures
  • ULS and SLS analysis for foundations
  • Slope stability analysis
  • Earthworks settlement analysis
  • Earthworks specifications
  • Cutting design (including soil nails, anchors or rock bolts)
  • Embankment design (including reinforced embankments)
  • Drafting Geotechnical Design Reports and Geotechnical Feedback Reports (to CD622)
Responsibilities

In this Senior Geotechnical Engineer position, you’ll support planning and engineering teams across a broad project portfolio. You’ll specify, manage and interpret investigations, deliver geotechnical assessments, and design practical geotechnical solutions – often as part of wider civil/structural commissions, with some standalone ground engineering projects as required.

Qualifications
  • A proven project management track record within design and build environments
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence building client relationships to support delivery and work winning
  • Strong understanding of consultancy/design markets, including work planning and commercial management
  • Excellent report writing skills, with the ability to self‑check and deliver accurate work
  • A degree in civil engineering or geology, plus a postgraduate geotechnical qualification
  • Chartered status as a civil engineer or geologist
  • Good understanding of EC7 and associated UK design codes
  • Experience using specialist geotechnical assessment/design software (Rocscience and Geo5 preferred)
  • Experience preparing drawings (ARC GIS and CAD preferred)
  • Willingness to travel for short assignments in the UK and overseas
  • A valid UK driving licence

Location and Working Pattern

This Senior Geotechnical Engineer opportunity is based from either Bristol or Cardiff, with an agile/hybrid approach and an expectation of three office days per week.
