As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior General Foreman to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

Oversees small work packages and supports construction managers on larger work packages, ensuring they're completed safely, on time, and within budget. Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors, managing schedules, handling permits and regulations, and ensuring quality control and safety compliance.

Health, Safety & Environment
  • Knowing what safety excellence looks like and communicating the safety message
  • Actively engage with the customer to understand and deliver their key objectives
  • Promoting sustainable solutions and environmental compliance around all operations
  • Accountable for RAMs, procedures and SSOW in place for their section of work
  • Management of plant movements, sign‑offs, checklists and specifications under company requirements/systems
  • Support accident investigation with the HSE team
  • Own and deliver daily Dabs briefings
Production Control
  • Understand project plans and schedules to be able to plan short and medium schedules that beat the delivery programme, with personal input on the estimation/resource required (labour, materials, time)
  • Manage and implement schedules/programmes within the project scheme, including the short‑term programmes
  • Own and manage sections of work ensuring subcontractors achieve their production & contractual obligations with direct competent decision‑making that can be validated by line management
  • Implement short‑interval control progress records that are commercial and contractually viable
  • Develop short‑term programmes into marked‑up plans to aid planning, records and logistics
  • Run own small‑scale DABs relevant to the section of works, including short‑interval control integration
Logistics
  • Instigate effective logistics with subcontractors and other members of the BB Project team
  • Solve conflicts of logic to ensure the responsible works are successful with short‑ and long‑term logistical planning in sync with the schedule/programme
  • Break a project down into its elements and analyse each element for its project‑specific logistical requirements
  • Ownership of sequence and phasing
  • Understand plant and lifting requirements for tasks under responsibility
Quality & Technical
  • Participate with the internal/external design & quality team/consultant/customer to meet project deadlines
  • Technically foresee, identify, and resolve design errors/deficiencies
  • Lead in the technical delivery of quality assurance
  • Identify and manage quality issues and NCRs from cradle to grave to ensure technical accuracy, specification compliance, and demand re‑works where appropriate
  • Contribute to the development and application of building safety & fire safety strategies, practices, and technologies in buildings, taking ownership of installation and compliance management
  • Approve and sign off works confidently
  • Understand hold‑point and handover requirements throughout the construction cycle
Commercial
  • Understand the commercial implications and drivers within the construction process and incorporate them into decision‑making
  • Build and understand scopes (project and supply chain) and the contractual obligations for their element of work both up and downstream
  • Identify procurement requirements and commercial impact of delays, with effective records and management culpability
  • Support the commercial team with accurate site records and backup during disputes
  • Process additional works and support BB position (day works)

  • Resolved conflicts and addressed challenges during construction projects
