Linear Recruitment Ltd is recruiting an experienced Senior General Foreman to lead a major bridge replacement project in East Sussex. The role focuses on safe delivery, environmental management, and maintaining programme on a busy civils site with earthworks, highways and structures.

You will manage operatives and subcontractors, plan resources, monitor progress and uphold high standards of quality and safety on site.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior General Foreman on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in heavy civils, highways and earthworks.
• Main contractor experience on complex, multi-discipline schemes.
• Demonstrable ability to lead site teams and subcontractors.
• Excellent communication and people management skills.

Job description

Overview

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior General Foreman to play a leading role on a major £11m bridge replacement project in East Sussex. The scheme involves replacing an existing single-lane crossing into a new two-lane bridge, alongside improved pedestrian and cycle provision. The project offers a varied heavy civil engineering environment, including piling, retaining structures, earthworks, highways, scour protection and temporary works. This is a key site-based role for a Senior General Foreman who is confident leading operatives and subcontractors across complex infrastructure works. With construction taking place within a sensitive river and countryside environment, the role will have a strong focus on safe delivery, environmental management, quality and maintaining programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate site operatives and subcontractors.
• Manage day-to-day construction activities across the project.
• Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
• Coordinate earthworks, highways, piling, retaining structures and associated civils.
• Support short-term programme planning and construction sequencing.
• Plan and order materials, plant and resources to meet programme requirements.
• Monitor productivity and proactively address delivery issues.
• Maintain accurate daily records of site activities and completed works.
• Ensure plant and equipment are suitable and compliant with legislation.
• Ensure works meet required quality standards and project specifications.
• Implement and monitor health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Maintain effective environmental controls around the River Cuckmere.
• Work closely with engineers, site management and subcontractors to coordinate delivery.
• Provide visible leadership and promote a strong culture of safety, quality and productivity.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior General Foreman or General Foreman on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in heavy civils, highways and earthworks.
• Main contractor experience on complex, multi-discipline schemes.
• Demonstrable ability to lead site teams and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, plant, materials and resources.
• Excellent communication and people management skills.
• SMSTS and CSCS certification.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Lift Supervisor and/or NRSWA Supervisor qualifications would be advantageous.
• Experience of bridge, structures or river-related infrastructure projects would be beneficial.
