Job description

Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Length: 6 months
Location: Hybrid working, office locations are national and candidates will need to attend when required to the nearest office to their location.

The Role

The Full-Stack Developer will join the Justice Redact team, working alongside Data Scientists, a DevOps Engineer, a User Researcher, a Product Lead, a Delivery Manager, Subject Matter Experts, and a Senior Interaction Designer.

You will be responsible for designing and building both the backend and frontend of a Personally Identifiable Information (PII) redaction Minimum Viable Product (MVP). An early prototype has already been developed by the data science team, and you will work closely with them to evolve this into a secure, scalable, and production-ready service.
Most of the work can be completed remotely; however, occasional travel will be required to support service users, attend in-person team meetings, and visit operational sites to better understand user challenges and test solutions.

Project Overview
The project tackles a growing challenge faced by a large, complex organisation handling increasing volumes of data access and information requests. Existing processes are heavily manual and fragmented, making it difficult to meet strict deadlines and increasing operational costs.
You will play a key role in modernzing these workflows, improving efficiency, reducing risk, and helping deliver a more robust, automated service.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Expert knowledge of Python, including front-end technologies such as HTML/CSS and frameworks such as React and Angular
  • Strong understanding of the relational data model and database applications
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain software
  • Proven experience working in Agile environments, delivering MVP functionality in fortnightly sprints
  • Experience with containerization
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Experience working with pre-existing codebases
  • Strong focus on improving the resilience and stability of software
  • Experience applying practices that enable continuous delivery

Desirable Experience

  • Designing software that allows users to view and interact with documents (e.g. PDF, Word) or images
  • Experience working with cloud-based platforms such as AWS
