Job summary

ZeroAvia is advancing hydrogen-electric propulsion and seeks a Fuel Cell Systems Engineer to transform fuel cell technology into a certifiable aerospace product. You will work across architecture, requirements, interfaces and validation to bridge component tech with aircraft-level integration.

You will address complex engineering challenges, collaborate across disciplines and help deliver safe, reliable zero-emission flight systems that meet programme needs and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Understanding PEM fuel cell electrochemistry and performance drivers.
• Experience integrating PEM fuel cells into complex aerospace systems.
• Ability to analyse PEM fuel cell test data for stack health and degradation.
• Experience developing and managing aerospace system requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead supplier management for LTPEM fuel cell systems ensuring on-time delivery and quality.
• Act as technical expert for LTPEM fuel cell and support interface design reviews.
• Support test teams in diagnosing fuel cell system performance during development.
• Own fuel cell system documentation and evidence of compliance.

ZeroAvia is leading the transition to zero-emission aviation through the development of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems for civil and defence aerospace applications. As ZeroAvia scales its hydrogen-electric propulsion programmes, the Fuel Cell Systems Engineer will play a key role in transforming fuel cell technology into a fully integrated, certifiable aerospace product. Working across system architecture, requirements, interfaces and validation activities, you will bridge the gap between component technologies and aircraft-level integration. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges, collaborate across multiple disciplines and help deliver the systems that will enable safe, reliable and commercially viable zero-emission flight.

Responsibilities:

• Lead supplier management and development activities for LTPEM fuel cell systems, ensuring timed delivery, quality, and compliance with programme requirements.
• Act as the technical expert for LTPEM fuel cell, providing subject matter expertise and supporting design reviews for interfaces and balance-of-plant fluid systems.
• Support the test team in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving fuel cell system performance issues during development and validation testing.
• Own and maintain fuel cell system documentation, including technical requirements, interface definitions, compliance evidence, and supporting design documentation.

Key requirements:

• Understanding of PEM fuel cell electrochemistry, including key operating principles, performance drivers, and limitations.
• Experience integrating PEM fuel cell stacks into complex systems, ideally for transport or aerospace applications, with practical experience resolving integration challenges.
• Experience analysing PEM fuel cell test data to assess stack health, performance, degradation trends, and failure indicators.
• Experience developing and managing requirements for aerospace (or similar) systems, hardware, or safety-critical products
• Experience applying operational and functional analysis to the development of fuel cell systems, electric propulsion systems, or related products.

Desirable skills:

• Experience using engineering tools such as LabVIEW, Polarion, and DIAdem.
• Expertise in ARP4754B requirements processes, including requirements capture, validation, decomposition and traceability.
• Experience with Teamcenter PLM or similar systems.
