Qualifications

• Significant experience building modern front-end applications using React, Angular, or Vue.
• Strong capability with HTML5, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and responsive design.
• Demonstrable UX experience: wireframing, prototyping, user flows, interaction design, and usability.
• Confident applying accessibility and inclusive design standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA).
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and handling JSON‑based data exchanges.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Front-End Engineer with strong UX capability to join a secure delivery team building user‑centric digital services for high‑priority government programmes. You’ll shape and deliver intuitive, accessible, and performant interfaces that support mission‑critical operations in sensitive environments.

Working closely with researchers, product teams, and technical specialists, you'll take responsibility for designing, prototyping, and implementing front‑end solutions that balance usability, accessibility, security, and performance constraints.

You’ll be involved across the full lifecycle — from early discovery and iterative design through to engineering, testing, and optimisation within secure cloud and on‑premise environments.

What You’ll Do

• Plan and conduct user‑centred design activities including sketching, wireframes, prototypes, journey mapping, and feedback loops.
• Translate research findings into clean, intuitive UI designs aligned to government or project‑specific UX guidelines.
• Create and maintain component libraries, design systems, and reusable front‑end patterns.
• Build high‑quality front‑end applications using modern frameworks (React / Angular / Vue) with TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Implement responsive, accessible (WCAG 2.1 AA) and high‑performance interfaces suitable for restricted or low‑bandwidth environments.
• Integrate UIs with backend APIs, microservices, and real‑time data sources.
• Optimise front‑end applications for speed, accessibility, and security‑hardening requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary Agile teams, contributing to ceremonies, peer reviews, and backlog refinement.
• Work closely with developers, testers, user researchers, and architects to ensure seamless end‑to‑end delivery.

About You

We’re particularly keen to speak with Developers who can blend strong engineering skills with a solid understanding of UX principles:

• Significant experience building modern front‑end applications using React, Angular, or Vue.
• Strong capability with HTML5, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and responsive design.
• Demonstrable UX experience: wireframing, prototyping, user flows, interaction design, and usability.
• Confident applying accessibility and inclusive design standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA).
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and handling JSON‑based data exchanges.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban) and collaborative engineering practices.
• Understanding of Secure by Design principles and delivering solutions within regulated or sensitive environments.
