Job summary

HSBC in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Fraud Strategy Manager to lead IWPB fraud strategy across card, payment and digital channels. You will collaborate with Product teams and control owners to apply robust fraud controls while preserving customer experience.

Role requires horizon scanning, threat assessment and benchmarking, plus continuous challenge of controls to address evolving fraud typologies and to mitigate risk across the bank.

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of fraud risk, attack methodologies and practises and how they impact our customers.
  • Understanding of current fraud industry regulatory expectations and their purpose.
  • Knowledge of latest fraud control technologies and capabilities in digital channels.

  • Represent IWPB as the fraud SME with external fraud stakeholders.
  • Conduct horizon scanning and emerging threat assessment and benchmarking.
  • Maintain understanding of evolving fraud risk typologies and make innovative recommendations on controls.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Fraud Strategy Manager.

Global Fraud and Credit Control Services is a first line of defence control function in International Wealth and Private Banking (IWPB), with the core purpose of supporting the entire customer fraud & credit journeys and creating sustainable outcomes for the Customer and the Bank. It has 6 core sub-functions: Credit Bureau Management; Decision Systems; Underwriting & Credit Operations; Collections; Fraud Ops and Fraud Management.

This role sits in Fraud Management within the first line of defence, responsible for producing, maintaining and executing fraud strategies that lay out how IWPB should apply controls to meet policy requirements and address current and future fraud threats.

In this role you’ll:

  • Own IWPB’s global fraud strategy and associated fraud specific strategies across key risk areas of card, payment and digital fraud.
  • SME to Business Product teams for all aspects of fraud strategy including its application for risk ownership, control design, product development
  • Ensure new product business and services have the requisite fraud controls that balance customer experience with fraud mitigation.
  • Responsible for assessment of the effective application of fraud strategy by market and global control owners
  • Represent IWPB as the fraud SME with external fraud stakeholders
  • Conduct horizon scanning and emerging threat assessment as well as peer benchmarking and best practice identification.
  • Maintain a deep understating of the evolving fraud risk typologies and making innovative recommendations on controls to manage these risks.
  • Continuously review and challenge the fraud controls to maintain a focus on customer experience and the reducing impact that fraud risk may have on other risk types (e.g. reputational risk, credit risk etc.).

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of fraud risk, attack methodologies and practises and how they impact our customers
  • An understanding of the current Fraud industry regulatory expectations, as well as their underlying purpose with respect to the management of fraud risks and their impact on customers.
  • Knowledge of latest fraud control technologies and capabilities especially in digital channels
  • Have first-hand knowledge and experience of Retail and Wealth Products and Services
  • A track record of delivering clear, concise, audience-tailored messages
  • Clearly flags risks, gets stakeholders aligned, and moves things forward with confidence
  • Works well independently, even with incomplete information, and still delivers in fast-changing environments
  • Cuts through complexity to find root causes, weighs options using data and good judgement, and drives practical solutions through to delivery.
  • Leadership, communication and inter-personal skills, with experience dealing with senior executive levels and diverse functional stakeholders to influence and achieve shared objectives
  • Ability to collaborate to develop innovative solutions to complex global issues
