Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Flood Risk Engineer to lead LLFA activities, delivering flood alleviation schemes and providing expert drainage guidance within a public sector environment.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with agencies like Environment Agency and water companies, and drive schemes from feasibility through funding applications. Experience with SuDS, GIS, CAD, and hydrological modelling will be essential.

Qualifications

• : Degree or HNC qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• : Experience in flood risk management, drainage engineering or a similar technical field.
• : Strong knowledge of SuDS, hydrology, drainage design standards and relevant legislation.
• : Experience using GIS, CAD and hydrological modelling software.
• : Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Deliver LLFA statutory functions, including flood investigations, land drainage consenting, enforcement, and surface water management activities.
• Provide specialist advice on flood risk, drainage design, SuDS and mitigation measures to support planning and development processes.
• Lead the appraisal, design and delivery of flood alleviation schemes, including feasibility studies, business cases and funding applications.
• Support the implementation and review of local flood risk management strategies and surface water management plans.
• Work closely with stakeholders including the Environment Agency, water companies and local communities.
• Assess flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and technical submissions associated with new developments.
• Maintain the statutory flood risk asset register.
• Undertake hydrological and hydraulic assessments and review drainage designs.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior colleagues.

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Flood Risk Engineer to play a key role in delivering flood risk management responsibilities as a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA). Reporting to the Flood Risk Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of flood alleviation schemes, provide technical expertise on drainage and flood risk matters, and support the authority's statutory duties under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Desirable

• Experience within a Lead Local Flood Authority, Environment Agency, water company or similar organisation.
• Membership of, or working towards membership of, a professional institution such as ICE or CIWEM.
