Job summary

WSP is seeking experienced professionals to join our Sustainable Water Management team in the UK. The role focuses on delivering and taking technical lead roles on flood risk management projects for Local Authorities, including flood investigations, strategies, and sustainable drainage master-planning.

A hybrid UK work arrangement is offered, with flexible location within the UK. The appointment would be at Senior or Principal grade, depending on experience, with opportunities to mentor others

Qualifications

• Experience in flood risk management with local authorities or public/private sector flood risk management.
• Ability to manage budgets and deliver projects or technical outputs related to flood risk management or sustainable drainage.
• Understanding of UK Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Land Drainage Act, Planning Practice Guidance: Flood Risk and Coastal Change; knowledge of broader regulatory planning context in the UK.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; mentoring juniors; liaising with senior colleagues.
• Knowledge of surface water drainage modelling and Sustainable Drainage Systems.
• Experience preparing Local Flood Risk Management Strategies and Strategic Flood Risk Assessments.
• Experience in technical report writing and checking.
• Ability to present and lead meetings with clients.

Responsibilities

• Significantly contribute to delivery of high quality technical deliverables, often as technical reviewer.
• Mentor junior colleagues and oversee small project teams.
• Manage workload and project delivery with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate positive H&S behaviours and champion this within the team.
• Contribute to planning tasks/projects with input to programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Engage positively with clients and grow a network of client contacts.
• Contribute to securing small projects and extensions to existing projects.
• Develop solutions addressing client issues with project or team leaders.
