Overview

You will play a crucial part in maintaining best practice compliance with both UK GAAP and local statutory requirements.

What you'll do

As a Senior Financial Accountant based in Milton Keynes, you will be instrumental in supporting the financial operations of multiple international branches. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include managing complex VAT submissions and overseeing comprehensive UK tax reporting requirements. You will be responsible for compiling detailed documentation for corporate tax returns while ensuring all claims are submitted efficiently to optimise group-wide tax positions. In addition to handling correspondence with HMRC and negotiating agreements on tax computations, you will forecast future liabilities for strategic planning purposes. Your expertise will also be called upon during monthly closing activities where you will assist with journal entries, accruals, balance sheet preparation, profit & loss statements, and supporting schedules.

• Manage VAT submissions by gathering required information, preparing returns accurately, and liaising with external advisors as necessary to ensure timely compliance.
• Oversee all aspects of UK tax reporting including Corporation Tax, R&D claims, Patent Box incentives, P11Ds, and PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSAs), ensuring all statutory obligations are met.
• Compile comprehensive documentation for third-party preparation of annual corporate tax returns related to UK entities and review completed returns for accuracy prior to submission.
• Submit all relevant claims and elections efficiently to minimise tax liabilities across the group while arranging payments to HMRC and between group companies as needed.
• Assist with monthly closing activities such as journal entries, accruals, reporting support, analysis tasks, balance sheet preparation, profit & loss statements, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain an accurate monthly accounting calendar by ensuring deadlines for reconciliations, journals, and reporting are consistently met across all assigned accounts.
• Enhance partnerships between accounting teams, other finance functions, business units, and IT by building proactive relationships that foster teamwork and knowledge sharing.

What you bring

To excel as a Senior Financial Accountant in this organisation you will bring substantial experience gained from previous roles involving complex financial accounting responsibilities ideally within multinational environments. Your background should demonstrate proven expertise managing corporate tax matters-including VAT treatments-while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of both UK GAAP (FRS 102).

• Full qualification in ACA or ACCA is essential along with 3-5 years' demonstrable experience in financial accounting roles within complex organisations.
• Proven expertise in Corporate Tax management including VAT treatments.
• Comprehensive understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102) principles is required for success in this position.
• Experience with SOX controls or similar regulatory frameworks is considered beneficial but not essential for this role.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications-particularly Excel formulas, pivot tables-and familiarity with data visualisation tools is expected.
• Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong analytical skills enabling you to collect organise analyse report complex data sets effectively.
• Excellent written verbal presentation communication skills demonstrating professionalism poise tact diplomacy when interacting across multiple levels functional teams globally.
• Ability to operate successfully across diverse geographical locations cultures whilst building collaborative relationships internally externally.
