A prominent healthcare institution is looking for a Senior Fellow in Pancreaticobiliary Medicine to join their gastroenterology department. The role involves significant training in both diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, specifically ERCP and EUS. Applicants are expected to be registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice, alongside having experience in basic endoscopy procedures. This position offers a unique opportunity for hands-on training and development in a supportive environment.
Weare inviting applications for the position of Senior Fellow inPancreaticobiliary Medicine at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in thedepartment of gastroenterology. The post holder will be able to pursue furthertraining in all aspects of benign and malignant PB medicine and participate indedicated clinics and regional MDT meetings. Training in ERCP and/or EUS andadvanced pancreaticobiliary endoscopic techniques will be delivered in at least5-6 dedicated lists per week. It is expected that applicants will havecommenced training in ERCP but prior EUS is not essential. This post will besupervised by Dr Matthew Huggett, Dr Bharat Paranandi, Dr Simon Everett and DrAaron On and is available from September 2026 until September 2027.
Thispost is fixed term for one year and is not accredited for training. Inaddition, there will be a requirement to provide inpatient ward cover for G(I)Mas a Consultant Physician. These duties will involve daily morning ward roundduties for 7 consecutive days in a 1:7 rotational basis. There will be noadditional out of hours on call commitment, and these duties will attract anuplift in salary to consultant equivalent rates of pay.
Candidatesmust be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license topractice by the intended start date.

Thepost holder will contribute to 1 clinic (pancreatology clinic) and 1 endoscopylist per week. The remaining sessions will include at least 5-6 dedicatedpancreaticobiliary endoscopy lists a week, attendance at the regional benignand cancer pancreatic MDTs and time to undertake project work. Training can betailored to the candidates career plans and experience i.e. training in ERCPonly or both EUS and ERCP. The fellow will participate in vetting and assessingpatients referred for ERCP/EUS and other advanced endoscopic procedures (toinclude ward reviews before and after procedures). In addition, there will be arequirement to provide inpatient ward cover for G(I)M. These duties willinvolve daily morning ward round duties for 7 consecutive days in a 1:7rotational basis. During these weeks, afternoons will remain free forsubspecialty training. There will be no additional out of hours on callcommitment, and these duties will attract an uplift in salary to equivalentconsultant rates of pay.

TheLeeds Gastroenterology Institute is based at St Jamess University Hospital. Wealso provide outpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and WharfedaleGeneral Hospital. We are a large yet cohesive department. We provide care forall aspects of gastrointestinal disease to a large local population and have 2inpatient wards in the modern Bexley wing at St Jamess. The hospital providesa regional and supra-regional service for benign and malignant pancreatic andliver disease and the gastroenterology department has close working links withpancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery, hepatology, radiology and oncologyservices.
Wehave a modern high specification endoscopy unit which has recently beenupgraded with the latest generation of Olympus equipment as well as enhancedEUS processors to allow for elastography and contrast EUS. We provide a widerange of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Candidatesshould hold a primary medical qualification, a membership of one of the UKRoyal Colleges of Physicians and hold a CCT (or equivalent) in Gastroenterologyand General (Internal) Medicine. Candidates must be independent (JAG accreditedor equivalent) at diagnostic gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy andtherapeutic gastroscopy (haemostasis). It is anticipated that candidates willhave had significant experience in ERCP (in excess of 100 procedures) but priorexperience in EUS is not necessarily required. Candidates must be eligible forregistration with the General Medical Council and hold a certificate inAdvanced Life Support from the UK Resuscitation Council, or an equivalent.
TEACHINGAND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING
We have a weekly programme of departmental CPDactivity. This includes histopathology and clinical governance meetings,journal article and clinical topic presentations. There are opportunities todevelop teaching skills in ward based or more formal settings, includingsimulation training. Leeds also runs a yearly ERCP course and there are plansto expand the number of courses offered; involvement in the delivery of thesecourses will be encouraged. An annual appraisal (in accordance with GMCrequirements) will be arranged, along with use of the Trusts appraisaltoolkit.
