Senior Estimator

Location – Hatfield, Hertfordshire

Rail Contractor

Permanent role

£70,000 – £90,000 / year + benefits + car allowance

A Senior Estimator is required to join a rail contractor on a permanent basis close to Hatfield. As the Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for leading estimates for civil engineering and drainage work and working with tender teams in order to secure sufficient work. Responsibilities include leading, mentoring, and developing estimators to assist with tender submittals (including identifying opportunities and risks for each project), undertaking estimates, liaising with stakeholders to agree methodology and principles, maintaining tender files / register of key assumptions, and note-taking from meetings, with the ultimate goal of winning work to meet the company growth targets. You will also be responsible for providing support to site teams relating to estimates and key assumptions, alongside obtaining feedback on estimations based on actual project cost.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working on high-value tenders (up to £5m) within rail drainage, utilities, and civils, along with having a commercial or engineering background (holding chartered / incorporated status or working towards it). You will also be confident at dealing with and collaborating with different stakeholders at a high level, have excellent research, proposal writing, and oral presentation skills, have knowledge of best industry practices and standards, be able to ensure that all tender submissions are both feasible and profitable, and be willing to perform site visits as required.
