Job summary

A leading construction firm in London seeks a Senior Estimator to oversee estimating functions and support land planning. The ideal candidate has estimating experience in residential development, excellent interpersonal skills, and advanced Excel knowledge. Qualifications

  • Estimating experience preferably in residential housing and high-density mixed-use development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to assist in site acquisition.
  • Ability to generate solutions and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee estimating functions and assist with land planning.
  • Measure from drawings to create cost plans.
  • Liaise with subcontractors to analyze rates.
  • Collaborate with technical teams for value engineering.
  • Produce land appraisals and various cost plans.

Our central London projects include 9 Millbank, West End Gate and Trillium in Marylebone, Oval Village, and Parkside at Chelsea Bridge. The Outer London projects include Eden Grove in Staines and The Exchange Watford, Syon Lane in Osterley and North Street in Guildford.

Key Responsibilities

To be responsible for the Estimating function and provide support to the Land & Planning team on each project from initial identification and viability assessment through the land acquisition and planning process.

  • Measuring from drawings and transposing quantities into a bill of quantities/elemental cost plan or land appraisal.
  • Liaison with subcontractors and analysis of rates for use in compiling cost plans and land appraisals.
  • Liaison with the technical team to assess site constraints.
  • Liaison with the technical team and consultants so as to provide continuous value engineering of design concepts and proposals for inclusion within cost plans and land appraisals.
  • Liaison with the material buying department to obtain pricing information for inclusion within cost plans and land appraisals.
  • Production of land appraisals.
  • Production of Planning Stack cost plans.
  • Production of Pre-Commencement cost plans.
  • Production of bench marking analysis for importation onto group portal.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Estimating experience within the residential sector (particularly housing and high density mixed-use development).
  • Motivated with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Traditional new business attributes including, good interpersonal skills and an strong desire to help bring new sites into the business.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Professional approach and high level of discretion.
  • Team player, willing to learn and get involved with a wide range of tasks, including support role to other members of the team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and generate solutions.
  • Highly IT literate, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
