Job summary

Microtech Global Ltd in Northampton is seeking a Senior Equipment Engineer with extensive experience in semiconductor manufacturing to lead maintenance and reliability programs.

You will repair and PM complex equipment, mentor technicians, manage spares with supply chain, and drive TPM initiatives while ensuring safety and environmental procedures.

Qualifications

  • An engineering degree or HNC/HND (or equivalent) is required.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience in semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Ability to follow procedures without close supervision and document new work instructions.
  • Strong time-management and organization skills.
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing semiconductor equipment and managing stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office and reporting.
  • Experience with multiple equipment vendors listed above is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and PM of specialist semiconductor processing equipment and related prep work.
  • Oversee chemical, gas and spare parts control, fills and waste management.
  • Mentor equipment technicians and junior engineers.
  • Liaise with suppliers and service providers, including supervising external contractors.
  • Develop and deliver preventative maintenance strategies to maximise OEE and up-time.
  • Motivate team to achieve group objectives and communicate them clearly.
  • Cross-train technicians and engineers to meet manufacturing needs.
  • Drive Total Productive Maintenance within the Engineering group.
  • Define and monitor progress of key improvement projects in 8-step format.
  • Produce monthly reports on equipment performance and project metrics.
  • Represent the group at production, planning and scrap meetings.
  • Collaborate with supply chain to manage spare parts inventory and stock levels.
  • Adhere to site safety and environmental procedures and support emergency response.
  • Provide shift cover as required.

Job description

Senior Equipment Engineer
Location: Northampton
Shift: Week 1 (6am 2pm) Week 2 (2pm -10pm)
Responsibilities:
  • Repair and preventative maintenance (PMs) of specialist semiconductor processing equipment, including any preparation work and routine cleans.
  • Oversee chemical, gases and spare parts control, chemical fills and waste management.
  • Instruct and mentor equipment technicians and junior equipment engineers in various aspects of equipment engineering.
  • Liaison with equipment and spares suppliers and specialist service providers (including the supervision of external contractors and field service engineers).
  • Develop and deliver preventative maintenance strategies to maximise equipment utilization, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and up-time.
  • Ensure that that team members are motivated towards achieving objectives of the group, and ensuring objectives are clearly communicated to them where necessary.
  • Ensure cross training of Equipment Technicians and Engineers in order to meet engineering and manufacturing requirements.
  • Responsible for driving Total Productive Maintenance practices within the Engineering group.
  • Define, allocate and to monitor the progress of key improvement projects in an 8-step format and to ensure that these are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for producing monthly reports detailing equipment performance, status of key improvement projects and metrics which will be circulated to the Engineering Management team.
  • Responsible for representing the group at production, planning and scrap meetings.
  • Work with supply chain to add the Wafer Fab Equipment spare parts inventory into stores and help manage stock levels and critical spares.
  • Adhere to all site safety and environmental procedures.
  • Support of site emergency response function.
  • Provide shift cover as required.

Requirements:
  • At least 5 years experience within a semiconductor manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to follow documented procedures without close supervision.
  • Ability to document procedures, including experience of generating new work instructions, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Good time-management and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate with the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Experience of working in a team and managing stakeholders.
  • Experienced in the maintenance and repair of Semiconductor manufacturing equipment including, but not limited to the following vendors: ASML, Trikon/SPTS, OiPT, Palomar, Temscal, Leybold, Leica, SemiTool.
  • An HNC/HND or Degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent) and/or 10 years of directly related experience.
