• Maintain environmental management systems, policies, controls and assurance processes, supporting external reporting.
• Partner with responsible business, facilities, procurement and finance teams to embed environmental considerations in decisions.
• Engage landlords, suppliers and advisers to improve performance and ESG priorities.
• Prepare clear reports and updates for senior leadership and governance forums.
• Coach and develop a manager, setting priorities and ensuring delivery.
• Provide oversight of health and safety compliance and risk management.

Leading London based law firm is seeking a Senior Environmental & Sustainability Manager to lead and develop the environmental and ESG agenda. This high-profile role is ideal for an environmental professional from a corporate or professional services environment who can combine strategic leadership with practical delivery. You will also oversee the firm's health and safety arrangements, supported by a manager with responsibility for day-to-day activity.

The Role

Reporting to senior leadership, you will own the firm's environmental management and sustainability framework, translating ESG commitments into credible plans, measurable outcomes and clear reporting. You will provide trusted advice to partners and business leaders, drive continual improvement across the firm's operations and supply chain, and manage and develop a manager who leads much of the operational health and safety activity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the firm's environmental and sustainability strategy, roadmap and management framework.
• Translate ESG commitments into practical programmes, targets, performance indicators and measurable outcomes.
• Own environmental data, analysis and reporting, including carbon, energy, waste, water and other material impacts.
• Drive carbon-reduction and resource-efficiency initiatives across offices, operations, business travel and the supply chain.
• Maintain appropriate environmental management systems, policies, controls and assurance processes, supporting external reporting or certification where relevant.
• Partner with responsible business, facilities, procurement, finance and other teams to embed environmental considerations in decision-making.
• Engage landlords, suppliers and specialist advisers to improve performance and support the firm's wider ESG priorities.
• Prepare clear reports, recommendations and updates for senior leadership and governance forums.
• Manage, coach and develop a manager, setting priorities and ensuring consistently high-quality delivery.
• Provide proportionate oversight of health and safety compliance, risk and assurance, offering guidance on key issues while enabling effective day-to-day management.

About You

• Substantial environmental management, sustainability or ESG experience within a complex corporate or professional services environment.
• A strong track record of developing environmental strategies and turning commitments into practical programmes and measurable results.
• Experience of environmental performance measurement and reporting, with a sound understanding of carbon, energy, waste and supply-chain impacts.
• Knowledge of recognised environmental management approaches and relevant legislation; an environmental qualification or professional membership would be advantageous.
• Working knowledge of UK health and safety requirements, with the judgement to provide effective oversight and escape material issues.
• Proven people-management experience and the ability to coach, delegate and build capability.
• Confidence working with partners and senior stakeholders and translating technical matters into pragmatic business solutions.
• Excellent judgement, communication, influencing and organisational skills, together with a collaborative and proactive approach.
