Job summary

A local council in West Sussex is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to join their Environmental Protection team. This interim part-time role involves assessing planning applications, investigating environmental complaints, and providing technical advice on noise issues. Candidates should possess a degree in Environmental Health and have extensive environmental protection experience. Flexible working arrangements are available.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control (or equivalent qualification).
  • Extensive experience in environmental protection, particularly in handling development control applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond to planning and development control applications.
  • Investigate and resolve environmental protection complaints.
  • Provide technical advice on noise, vibration, and acoustics.
  • Liaise with internal and external parties for effective service delivery.
  • Prepare reports for enforcement action or legal proceedings.
  • Contribute to policy development within the Environmental Protection team.
