Job summary

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is seeking a Senior Environmental Health Officer or Senior Scientific Officer to lead in environmental protection across Mid Kent. You will address complex nuisance issues, review planning/licensing, and prepare evidence for legal proceedings while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Significant experience within Environmental Protection.
• Strong knowledge of environmental health legislation and enforcement practices.
• Experience investigating complex nuisance and noise complaints.
• Experience supporting, mentoring or developing less experienced colleagues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to make balanced decisions and manage a varied workload.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve complex environmental nuisance complaints.
• Respond to public service requests relating to noise, odour, light and other environmental issues.
• Review planning and licensing applications and provide specialist advice.
• Prepare evidence for legal proceedings and represent the Council when required.
• Support and mentor junior officers, trainees and apprentices.
• Lead and develop specialist service areas such as acoustics, air quality, environmental permitting, contaminated land, private water supplies and statutory nuisance.
