Job summary

SOLOS Consultants Ltd client seeks a Senior Environmental Health Officer to join their Private Sector Housing team on an initial 9-month contract. The role combines technical environmental health expertise with leadership responsibilities and complex casework in enforcement.

You will supervise staff, oversee inspections, assess housing hazards, and coordinate enforcement actions, while engaging with partner agencies, elected Members, and appropriate legal processes.

Qualifications

• Qualified Environmental Health professional with Private Sector Housing experience.
• Strong knowledge of HHSRS and housing legislation.
• Experience in complex casework and enforcement within private rented housing.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team within Private Sector Housing.
• Undertake complex inspections and investigations of residential property conditions.
• Assess housing hazards and take formal enforcement action.
• Provide expert advice on housing legislation and HHSRS.
• Sign and oversee service of statutory notices.
• Prepare prosecution cases and evidential requirements.
• Act as expert witness at tribunals and higher courts.
• Lead projects and develop policies and service improvements.
• Engage with partner agencies, elected Members and MPs.
• Deputise for the Private Sector Housing Manager.
