Job summary

Assystem in Ipswich is seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences and consents. You will lead site inspections, ecological surveys, and reporting while advising on environmental planning constraints and coordinating with multiple teams on site.

The role emphasizes stakeholder engagement, environmental performance tracking, and updating the Environmental Management Plan to meet regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in an Environmental Management role with onsite environmental and ecological experience.
• Detailed knowledge of UK environmental legislation relevant to construction or industrial installations.
• Ability to work independently with strong communication and influencing skills.
• Experience conducting environmental/ ecological fieldwork and supervising works in sensitive habitats.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with contractors and stakeholders.
• Experience operating within an EMS conforming to ISO14001:2015.

Responsibilities

• Site supervision and compliance, including inspections and reporting of environmental issues.
• Ecological surveys and monitoring with on-site guidance to contractors and teams.
• Preparation of daily site logs, compliance reports, and ecological monitoring records.
• Gathering and reporting environmental performance information on site activities.
• Support for compliance with environmental legislation and demonstration of protection equipment.
• Assist with planning environmental deliverables and coordinate with senior ecologists.
• Liaise with stakeholders to communicate environmental requirements and act as on-site environmental contact.
• Reviewing and updating the Environmental Management Plan to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Support internal audits and the self‑assessment of site activities.
