Job summary

STRABAG is seeking an Environmental Manager to support Project Management and Supervisors in discharging environmental responsibilities on a major construction project in Manchester. The role involves maintaining EMS documentation, ensuring compliance with legislation, and coordinating with regulators and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent in environmental management, IEMA membership, a full driving licence, CSCS card and EUSR water hygiene blue card, with

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in environmental management.
  • Member of a recognised environmental body (IEMA or equivalent).
  • Full driving licence and CSCS card.
  • EUSR water hygiene blue card (can be obtained in role).
  • Experience in environmental management within construction.
  • Strong understanding of EN legislation and ISO 14001.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support Project Management and Supervisors in discharging environmental responsibilities and respond to queries.
  • Ensure staff understand statutory duties and Group Environmental Procedures.
  • Write, review and maintain EMS documentation for the project.
  • Identify significant environmental impacts and help set up contracts with controls.
  • Maintain records to ensure compliance with legislation, procedures andContract requirements.
  • Identify training needs and maintain training records.
  • Advise on consents and authoring documents for planning condition discharge.
  • Support Environment Manager and Project Management in liaising with stakeholders and regulators.
  • Lead investigations into incidents when required.
  • Produce Contract Environmental Management Plans and site-specific instructions.
  • Provide regular updates to Project Manager, Head of Environment and Director of Environment & Sustainability.
  • Undertake internal audits within the Business Unit/Project.
  • Disseminate regulatory and legislative updates to staff.
  • Participate in collaboration initiatives and promote best practice.
  • Produce contract environmental plans and site-specific instructions.

Education

Degree Qualified (or experience equivalent to a degree)
Practitioner Member of IEMA (or similar)
Full Driving Licence
Relevant CSCS card
EUSR (water hygiene) blue card
Previous experience in Environmental Management within the construction industry
Good understanding of environmental legislation relevant to the construction industry
Good understanding of the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard
Willingness to travel

  • Writing, reviewing and maintaining EMS documentation for the project.
  • Identify significant environmental impacts for the project and help set-up contracts to include appropriate controls.
  • Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements.
  • Identify employees that require environmental training, provide relevant training and maintain records of training provided.
  • Advising on, and applying for, consents and authoring documents for planning condition discharge.
  • Support the Environment Manager and other Project Management in direct liaison with stakeholders and regulators.
