Job summary

Costain is seeking a Contract Environmental lead to oversee environmental performance across three Cumbria projects, ensuring compliance with the SHE Management System and supporting contract leadership teams.

The role is site-based, with responsibilities spanning training, coaching, and collaboration with clients and suppliers to deliver environmental outcomes across water-sector schemes in the North West and Cumbria region.

Qualifications

• Environmental related experience.
• Significant relevant Environmental experience in relevant industry.

Responsibilities

• Support and Influence Contract Leadership Team, Clients, and other Stakeholders in compliance with the SHE Management System and Contract Environmental Performance.
• Support and where required deliver training, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the SHE Management System.
• Coach and support the Contract Operational and Supply Chain Contractors in the delivery of the Contract Environmental requirements.
• Where required be actively involved in the ongoing assessment of the Contracts Supply Chain Contractors.
• Actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives.
• Actively engage with the Contract Environmental Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements.
• Actively support the investigation of all unplanned events and close out of assurance findings, ensuring lessons are shared in accordance with the SHE Management System.
• Support the timely reporting, analysis, and use of Environmental data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team and where required support the development and implementation of data-based improvement plans.

Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 – 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 – 2035). Our scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North West and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners

To lead the Contract Environmental function, provide Environmental solutions and enable the Contract Leadership / Operational Teams to implement the Group SHE Management System across 3 Cumbria projects (Glebe Road, Hawkshead & Grasmere)
