OCU Group is seeking a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor to lead regional sustainability performance and environmental compliance across the Sea Link Project and nearby regions. You will coordinate with SHESQ teams, drive improvements, and provide expert guidance on policies and training.

Travel across Kent and Suffolk is required; a valid driving license is essential. The role is permanent, full-time, based in Borehamwood with the opportunity to influence environmental governance

The Opportunity

As a Sustainability and Senior Environment Advisor, you will support sustainability and environmental initiatives across the Sea Link Project and wider southern region. You will ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and company policies, while providing environmental and sustainability leadership to SHESQ teams and driving continual improvement.

Reporting to the EA2 Environment Manager, you will work closely with the southern E&S team and SHESQ Managers and Advisors, supporting a range of projects and frameworks across the region. The role will involve regular travel to Sea Link project sites across Kent and Suffolk.

What You'll Do

• Lead regional sustainability and environmental performance by implementing and continually improving sustainability strategies, supporting regional goals and KPIs, and promoting a culture of continual improvement, accountability and best practice.
• Ensure environmental compliance and risk management by monitoring relevant legislation, regulations and standards, assessing their impact on operations, and implementing appropriate controls and mitigation measures to prevent pollution and minimise environmental risks.
• Drive environmental assurance and incident management through inspections and assessments, identifying impacts, vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement, and overseeing the investigation of incidents and near misses, including root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
• Provide specialist advice, training and support to operational teams, ensuring contractual and legal requirements are met while delivering sustainability and environmental training and initiatives that build awareness, competence and engagement.
• Build strong stakeholder and customer relationships by working with project teams, Directors, SHESQ colleagues and regional customers to promote sustainability goals and best practice, ensure environmental and sustainability commitments are met, and accurately collate, analyse and report performance data in line with company, customer and regulatory requirements.
• Support the delivery and growth of the business by contributing to tender submissions and business development, working collaboratively across frameworks and projects to ensure development plans and performance are effectively managed, and working with Operations to identify and meet future resourcing needs.

What You'll Bring

• Relevant experience: Proven experience in an environmental and sustainability advisory role, preferably within the construction, infrastructure, utilities or engineering sectors.
• Technical expertise: Strong knowledge and practical experience of environmental regulations, standards and best practice, including ISO 14001 and relevant environmental legislation. Experience in environmental audits, inspections and risk assessments, as well as incident investigation and root cause analysis methodologies.
• Qualifications: A relevant Bachelor's degree or higher, such as Environmental Science or Sustainability Management, and/or IEMA Practitioner level or above.
• Strong professional skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple projects and deliver results. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Collaborative leadership: A proven ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including coaching and supporting junior team members to develop their careers. A commitment to continuous learning, professional development and staying up to date with evolving sustainability issues and solutions.
• Flexibility to travel: Willingness and ability to travel across project locations and throughout the region, with occasional travel outside the region as required. A valid driving licence is essential.
