Our Energy Business Unit are delivering the backbone of tomorrow’s energy grid. We’re strengthening our engineering capability to deliver major overhead line (OHL) and transmission projects across the UK. We’re now seeking a Senior Engineering Manager (OHL) to lead engineering delivery across high-voltage transmission schemes from concept to completion.

The Role

Reporting to the Director for Engineering & Technical Services, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of internal and external engineering teams, ensuring engineering deliverables are completed safely, to specification, and in line with project timelines and budgets.

You’ll manage large-scale, complex multi-disciplinary projects—especially focused on 400kV and 132kV overhead line systems—contributing to tendering, delivery, innovation, and compliance across the business unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering activities across pre-contract and project delivery stages
  • Manage engineering resources for temporary works, design reviews, and approvals
  • Maintain high-level engagement with clients, supply chain, and consulting engineers
  • Support tenders and bids, contributing technical insight and design strategy
  • Drive innovation and embed lessons learned across OHL delivery teams
  • Ensure robust compliance with CDM Regulations, H&S legislation, and industry standards
  • Represent the business in external forums and industry networks
  • Manage training and competency records for all engineering personnel
  • Promote sustainability, safety, and continuous improvement on all engineering fronts
The Candidate
  • Demonstrable experience in senior engineering management within OHL, transmission, or HV infrastructure projects
  • Strong track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure or utility projects
  • Deep understanding of design assurance, CDM regulations, and temporary works
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage engineering risks
  • Experience in joint ventures, alliances, or collaborative frameworks
  • Skilled in stakeholder management, including clients, regulators, and contractors
  • Strong technical knowledge of 132kV to 400kV OHL design and construction practices
Qualifications
  • Degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (ICE, IET, or equivalent)
  • Training in CDM, H&S, and environmental standards highly desirable

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair and refurbishment services.
