Job summary

The Very Group is seeking an experienced data leader to shape and scale our data engineering organisation. You will lead multiple Data Engineering Managers, BI Engineering Managers and Lead Engineers, guiding a team of around 40 engineers and analysts.

You will set technical direction, drive platform modernisation, and collaborate with Architecture, Product and Technology leaders to turn data into trusted business value.

About the team

The Data team plays a critical role in helping Very unlock the value of its data.

We'reresponsible for the platforms,pipelinesand products that power reporting, analytics, data science,personalisationand decision-making across the Group. Our teams work closely with Product, Architecture, Data Science, Delivery and Business stakeholders to solve complex challenges and deliver real commercial value.

This role sits within the senior leadership team for Data and will work alongside the Head of Data and fellow engineering leaders to shape our strategy, drive modern engineeringpracticesand support the continued evolution of our data ecosystem.

You'llbring:

• Significant experienceleading large-scale data engineering organisations within modern technology environments.(AWS, Teradata,Fivetran, Power BI)
• A track recordof building, developing and inspiring high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong experience delivering data platforms,pipelinesand products at scale.
• Previoushands-on experience in Data Engineering, with a strong understanding of modern engineering practices.
• Experience working within Agile,DevSecOpsand product-led delivery environments.
• The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to influence at senior levels.
• Experience managing technical debt, engineeringroadmapsand platform modernisation initiatives.
• A passion for coaching,mentoringand helping others grow
• Experience with AWS and cloud-based data platforms.
• Teradata,Fivetranand modern data integration tooling.
• Business Intelligence and analytical engineering capabilities.
• Retail, eCommerce, FinancialServicesor similarly data-rich organisations.
