Lead EMS Engineer

London or Birmingham | £90,000 - £100,000 + package | Hybrid working - 3 days a week in the office

We're supporting a major infrastructure programme to appoint an experienced Lead EMS Engineer responsible for developing, integrating and assuring Engineering Management Systems (EMS) and SCADA systems across complex, multi‑disciplinary rail and infrastructure environments.

The Role:

As Lead EMS Engineer, you'll be accountable for setting technical standards, developing requirements and specifications, and leading system integration to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operational performance. You'll provide technical leadership to a small team and work closely with senior engineering, assurance and delivery teams to define solutions that meet performance, cost, and safety objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of EMS and SCADA technical requirements, specifications, and standards.
  • Manage engineering assurance and technical risk across large‑scale system integration activities.
  • Oversee supplier engagement, design development, and proof‑of‑concept solutions.
  • Provide expert input on engineering interfaces, commissioning, and system integration.
  • Support value engineering, innovation, and continuous improvement across delivery teams.
About You:
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Control Systems, or similar).
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status (CEng).
  • Strong understanding of EMS and SCADA systems within rail or complex infrastructure environments.
  • Experience developing and implementing engineering standards, requirements, and assurance processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
