Senior Engineering Geologist

The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer to join our dynamic Ground Investigation team. Reporting to the Line Manager, you will play a key role in delivering complex and high-quality ground investigation projects across the UK - and occasionally within Europe - that support sustainable infrastructure and environmental development.

Our projects range from renewable energy investigations in remote areas to large-scale urban regeneration schemes, contributing to both modern infrastructure and heritage conservation.

This role combines site and office-based responsibilities, offering professional variety and the opportunity to mentor junior team members while managing projects from start to finish. The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, with flexibility available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise large-scale ground investigation projects, including planning, costing, client liaison, and fieldwork coordination.
  • Oversee subcontractors, suppliers, and the procurement of materials and services.
  • Prepare and review health and safety documentation in line with company and regulatory standards.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff on soil and rock logging in accordance with BS5930 : 2020.
  • Produce factual and interpretative reports, and ensure accurate data collection, processing, and management.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required, maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.
  • Support continual improvements in Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards.
  • Undertake professional development and required training courses (e.g. PTS, NRASWA, CCNSG, First Aid, Manual Handling).
  • Mentor and supervise graduate engineers and geologists, supporting their technical and professional growth.
About You

We're looking for someone proactive, organised, and passionate about the geotechnical and environmental sector. The ideal candidate will have :

  • BSc in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geography, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing ground investigation projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong practical experience in soil and rock logging (BS5930 : 2020).
  • Experience supervising site teams, including drillers and engineers, and engaging directly with clients.
  • A thorough understanding of CDM regulations and best practices in SHEQ management.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to motivate others.
  • Flexibility to work on varied projects and travel as required.
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities, with attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
  • A valid manual UK driving licence and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
