Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. in Birmingham is looking for a TL3 Power Delivery Transmission & Distribution engineer to join our design team and lead key projects.

You will apply advanced engineering principles to produce precise calculations, designs, and deliverables that meet client expectations. Responsibilities include mentoring engineers, coordinating across teams, ensuring compliance with codes, and maintaining high quality and safety across all projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Progressively responsible transmission and distribution experience (8+ years).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Ability to mentor engineers and engineering associates.
• Strong problem solving and attention to detail in design work.

Responsibilities

• Lead or collaborate with the design team to deliver on-time tasks.
• Apply engineering principles to produce calculations and designs.
• Work with transmission and distribution materials across project sizes.
• Use design software to ensure codes and client standards compliance.
• Perform material takeoffs and reviews of project specs.
• Coordinate with team to translate design intent into drawings.

Responsibilities

• Leading or collaborating with the Design Team to ensure assigned tasks are completed on time.
• Applying advanced engineering principles to produce accurate and precise calculations and design deliverables.
• Knowledge of transmission and distribution materials associated with basic, intermediate, and complex project designs.
• Utilizing design software to create designs compliant with all codes and client standards.
• Performs material selection and takeoffs for basic, intermediate, and complex project designs.
• Review and understand project specifications, requirements, and standards.
• Coordinate with other team members to ensure design intent is transferred to the design drawings.
• Establish, promote, and assure quality on all projects and work performed.
• Provide quality workmanship for all projects and work performed.
• Promote and support a safety culture within group and demonstrates safe work practices.
• May provide technical oversight on basic and intermediate project tasks.
• Mentors and coaches Engineers and Engineering Associates as needed.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve technical problems related to transmission and distribution.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations needed to support basic, intermediate, and complex designs.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in engineering and design work.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and other drafting software.
• Great interpersonal skills and aptitude for developing a working relationship with the entire design team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with others.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa Safety requirements.
• Ability to identify quality issues and comply with Mesa’s quality requirements.
