iberdrola UK is recruiting a Senior Engineer / Senior Energy System Specialist to lead energy planning and strategic optimisation across SP Energy Networks, with Glasgow or Prenton as primary locations and other licence areas possible.

You will work with cross‑functional teams to deliver regulatory outputs, manage stakeholder engagement, and apply technical network analysis to support Net Zero initiatives and the Just Transition.

What you'll be doing

You will be joining our Distribution System Operation (DSO) - Strategic Projects & Optimisations team that delivers key energy project across SP Energy Networks leveraging technology, novel process and markets to support our customers and stakeholders on their Net Zero journey, enabling a Just Transition, delivering better Whole System outcomes.

You will be working with cross functional teams across the business and the wider energy sector.

Having the flexibility to thrive in a new and rapidly developing space are critical. As part of this team, you can expect to inform the future development of the energy sector through strategic relationships, optimisation solutions and energy plan development:

  • Own and maintain relationships across local, regional and national bodies, providing direct support for energy planning activities and active relationship management in line with department, DSO and business requirements.
  • Support on SP Energy Network's input to, and review of LAEPs, LHEES, LDP and any equivalent strategies, leading on inputs as required.
  • Support on the risk assessment of, and processing of data requests from external parties as part of our formal processes. This will include direct engagement with, and support of external stakeholders with their energy planning through network context, representing the business on specific meetings and forums.
  • Support on Strategic Optimisation and LCT Optioneering activities across our licence areas - providing strategic input through technical network analysis, project management and cross department co-ordination to deliver regulatory outputs and taking the lead on these outputs when required.
  • Identify new opportunities to deliver value through people, tools and processes to improve our overall offering externally to our stakeholders.
  • Work alongside our Projects & Strategy team, who lead on the delivery of key regulatory techno-economic projects and delivery of critical DSO projects

Delivering impactful projects through project management and analysis, you will:

  • Support the delivery of key projects or initiatives, supporting their implementation across SP Energy Networks. This includes delivery of key DSO requirements for ED2 (such as optimisation or optioneering work, input to the DSO incentive and SOO reports on an annual basis) and key preparations for ED3.
  • Accountability for reporting requirements (such as internal reporting, DARs), generation of reports / analysis on energy planning support and outputs. This includes keeping department management informed on a regular basis of key internal and external activities.
  • Support the development and training of the more junior members of the team as required.
  • Provide stakeholder engagement for, and internal reviews of our DFES, including other appropriate network planning publications alongside ongoing engagement with the RESP
  • Representation on industry working groups / forums to influence the direction of key developments in the sector
  • Support on business change programmes across SP Energy Networks for the implementation of new technical, commercial or policy approaches
What you'll bring

To be successful in a role you will need to demonstrate as minimum:

  • Electricity network design experience is advantageous - demonstrating technical, regulatory and business knowledge.
  • An engineering background is not required but is advantageous.
  • Project Management experience with the ability to manage and deliver multiple projects and programmes of work to a high degree, both individually and working with others within the department
  • High level business planning, financial awareness and strategic thinking
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the abilities to influence and persuade effectively
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, including good listening skills, tact, diplomacy and political awareness
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail, with advanced experience with full suite of MS software including Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse and demanding workloads
