Help us create a better future, quicker!

At SP Energy Networks, we're at the forefront of delivering the electricity infrastructure needed to support Scotland's net zero ambitions. As we prepare for the next electricity distribution price control period (ED3), we're investing in our network, our people and the projects that will power homes, businesses and communities for decades to come.

This is an exciting time to join our Distribution business. With significant growth planned over the coming years, we're looking for two Senior Engineers (Primary Projects) to play a key role in shaping and developing our future investment programme.

Working within our Primary Projects team, you'll be responsible for developing and designing network solutions that enable the successful delivery of major substation and network projects. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to create robust investment plans, deliver customer-driven solutions, and ensure our network continues to support a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

This role offers the opportunity to influence strategic investment decisions, develop innovative engineering solutions and contribute to a programme of work that will have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

What you'll be doing
  • Develop and design network projects and programmes that support business plan objectives and future network requirements.
  • Build robust, coordinated and deliverable work programmes across the licence area, ensuring maximum value from regulatory investment.
  • Support the development of ED3 and wider investment plans through effective engineering and commercial decision making.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, stakeholders and internal teams to develop solutions that meet network and customer requirements.
  • Drive innovation by identifying and applying new technologies , processes and commercial approaches to network design.
  • Promote and champion a strong safety culture across all activities.
  • Analyse project performance and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
  • Apply sound asset management and engineering principles to improve network reliability, resilience and performance.
  • Support and mentor less experienced engineers, graduates and trainees, helping to develop future talent within the business.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of strategic network investment programmes.
What you'll bring
  • Strong experience in electrical network design and development, ideally up to 33kV.
  • Knowledge of electricity distribution networks and associated engineering standards.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment and investment drivers affecting network development.
  • Ability to balance technical, commercial and customer considerations when developing solutions.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and making sound engineering judgements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience using network analysis and modelling tools.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
What you'll need
  • Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in a project development, design or network planning role.
  • Network construction and/or operational experience.
  • Strong IT and system skills.
  • Due to the nature of the role, you'll be required to travel to sites across Central and Southern Scotland, so a full UK driving licence is essential.
