Job description

Role: Senior Engineer / Analyst - Civil & Structural

Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK's premier green export technology.

The Team

The Reactor Island Civil & Structural team is central to the development of the RR SMR design, responsible for the analysis and substantiation of safety-critical structures. The team applies advanced engineering and analytical techniques to ensure designs meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.

The Role

In this context, we are looking for a Senior Engineer / Analyst - Civil & Structural to report to a Reactor Island Civil & Structural Team Leader. This role will lead the development and delivery of structural analysis activities, supporting the design and substantiation of critical reactor structures and contributing to the overall safety case for the programme.

What We’ll Need You to Do
  • Leading the development, execution and interpretation of finite element analysis models to support structural design and substantiation
  • Defining analysis approaches, including model fidelity, to address complex structural behaviours and loading conditions
  • Supporting the development of safety-classified structures through robust, traceable analytical evidence aligned to quality standards
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure analysis outputs inform and influence the evolving design
What You’ll Bring

As you can see, this is a pivotal role within the programme, requiring a technically credible and collaborative individual who can lead analytical activities, influence design decisions, and communicate complex engineering challenges clearly and effectively, alongside Experience & Qualifications.

Experience & Qualifications
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent demonstrable industry experience)
  • We’ll ask you about your experience leading structural analysis activities and delivering engineering solutions within infrastructure or other regulated, safety-critical environments
  • Strong technical knowledge of finite element analysis, structural behaviour, and relevant design codes and standards
  • Experience in the analysis of reinforced concrete and/or steel structures, including consideration of complex loading scenarios such as seismic, thermal, pressure, or extreme events
  • Chartered status and nuclear industry experience are desirable, but not essential.
Location

This role offers flexible and hybrid working. You will be expected to attend a UK office location as required to support collaboration and programme delivery.

What’s in It for You
  • We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000-£63,000
  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 7%
  • Benefits Allowance - £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
Selection Process

The selection process will consist of staged interviews. Due to the nature of the role, candidates will be required to successfully complete:

  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Basic financial probity checks

We also welcome applications from individuals considering a sector move who can demonstrate transferable skills from other regulated or safety-critical industries.
