Job summary

Your Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer in our Construction Engineering team, you will lead complex design and coordination tasks that support efficient, innovative, and buildable construction delivery. You will work across a diverse portfolio of complex projects, contributing to construction methodology, sequencing, logistics studies, design for manufacture and modular construction, and digital engineering workflows. You will deepen your technical expertise, take on greater project responsibility, and gain exposure to client engagement and project management.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and refine construction engineering documents in a digital environment, solving non-routine challenges and ensuring quality through thoughtful self-review.
• Collaborate proactively with contractors and design teams to develop practical, constructable solutions for complex structures and challenging construction conditions.
• Use digital design and computational workflows to test options, improve construction methods and sequencing, and support clearer coordination between temporary and permanent works.
• Perform structural engineering tasks for construction engineering projects, including construction-stage analysis, temporary works design, and detailing of increasing complexity.
• Evaluate load paths in permanent and temporary conditions, including partially constructed structures and non-standard configurations.
• Expand your project exposure by observing client interactions, gaining insight into scopes, services, and fee structures, and building a strong professional network within Thornton Tomasetti and across the industry.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• Structural engineering experience, with exposure to construction engineering and/or steel connection design.
• Growing proficiency with tools such as SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, Strand7, Rhino3D, and Grasshopper.
• Interest in applying digital construction methods, parametric modelling, or computational tools to improve buildability, construction-stage analysis, and project coordination.
• Effective communication skills and a proactive approach to workload management, mentoring, and professional development.
• Initiative to deepen your expertise in both technical engineering and project-delivery fundamentals.
