Job summary

Bradford Council is seeking a Senior Engineer for its Highway Structures section. The role covers feasibility through to detailed design and procurement of highway schemes, including contract specifications and bills of quantity.

You will act as Designer under CDM Regulations and provide technical leadership to junior staff on a 37-hour week. Candidates should have experience in design and assessment engineering, particularly for structures and abnormal load verifications, and be competent in

Qualifications

• Experienced design and assessment engineering background, as needed for Structures Advisor work on abnormal load verifications.
• Competence in technical computer software needed for the role.

Responsibilities

• Carry out or assist with feasibility proposals, taking highway asset schemes from concept to detailed design.
• Check designs against national standards and internal requirements.
• Provide technical advice and direction to ensure compliant, effective designs.
• Produce or assist with contract specifications and bills of quantity.
• Assist with procurement of specialist technical services and contractors, liaising with the procurement unit.
• Act as Designer for projects under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
• Assist in preparing technical programmes with key dates and milestones.
• Assist with budget and programme reporting alongside the Project Manager or Senior Engineer.
• Plan and run public engagement and consultation activities for capital works.
• Lead and guide junior staff allocated to the role.
• Ensure the Council meets its obligations as Highway Authority under the Highways Act, Road Traffic Act and allied legislation.
• Comply with health and safety legislation.
