Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer focused on the platform level of our hardware products. You will work with Linux and Android, adapting standard behavior for marine environments and engaging across hardware and mechanical engineering to deliver high-quality, reliable devices.

The role covers full lifecycle involvement, from platform bring-up to driver development and system testing, in an agile setting.

Qualifications

• Senior Platform Software Engineer with Linux platform bring-up experience.
• Familiarity with Yocto and/or Buildroot.
• Proficiency with debugging tools and techniques, including scope probe when required.
• Solid understanding of hardware design principles and ability to read schematics.
• Android platform experience would be beneficial but is not required.
• Experience with various Linux capable processors.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to be on site at least 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Full Linux platform bring-up (bootloader, kernel, drivers, dts) for marine hardware products.
• Build Linux root file system and device drivers for multiple boards.
• Create reliable software upgrade processes.
• Write scripts and services to ensure correct board startup.
• Design and implement low-level drivers and communication protocols for RT systems.

Job Description

Job Summary:

Embedded software engineer working on the platform level of our hardware products. This involves working with both Linux and Android and modifying the standard behaviour to work within our marine environment. Being involved in the full lifecycle of new products, working closely with other departments (such as hardware and mechanical engineering) to produce vital, high quality and reliable devices for our customers.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Full Linux platform bring-up (including bootloader, kernel, drivers and dts files) for our cutting-edge products, ensuring optimal performance, reliability and efficiency.
• Building the Linux root file system and device drivers for various boards.
• Creating reliable software upgrade processes.
• Writing scripts and services to ensure the board starts up correctly.
• Designing and implementing low-level drivers, components, and communication protocols for systems in a multi-threaded real-time environment.
• Conducting thorough testing and debugging of systems, identifying and resolving software and hardware integration issues.
• Working closely with the product development team to define software requirements, specifications, and system architecture.
• Working within an agile environment.
