Job summary

Ensera Design, a world-class innovation and product development consultancy, seeks a Senior Electronics Engineer to design and develop electronic systems within the Electronics & Software team. You will consult with clients, apply first principles, and guide concepts to production, with opportunities to lead projects and proposals.

The role is based in Bristol with hybrid/partial home working; a 38-hour week is typical, and part-time options may be considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Degree (2:1) in Electronics Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of analogue circuit design principles.
  • Experience with 32-bit ARM MCUs (e.g., STM32).
  • Solid understanding of wired/wireless protocols: I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE, USB, Ethernet.
  • Good PCB layout practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronic systems within the Electronics & Software team.
  • Lead projects, proposal writing, planning, specification development and reporting.
  • Consult with clients to understand challenges and translate into viable solutions.
  • Take concepts through to production using first principles, experimentation and simulation.

Ensera Design is a world-class user-centred innovation and product development consultancy, specializing in the medical and consumer health sectors with offices in Bristol, Colorado and New Jersey. As part of Ensera, we collaborate globally with contract manufacturing facilities in Europe, the USA, and Asia.

We are currently seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer looking to combine their well-established engineering expertise and consultancy skills to the development of new products and technologies. This is primarily a full-time role (38 hours per week) based out of our Bristol office however a proportion of the work can be conducted at home and we will consider the possibility of part-time working for the right candidate.

As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of electronic systems as part of the Electronics & Software team. You will consult with clients to understand their challenges and use your creative and technical skills to identify and bring to life solutions. You will use your knowledge of electronic and physical first principles, analytical skills, practical experimentation, and simulation skills to take electronic systems from concepts through to production. You will have the opportunity to lead projects, proposal writing, planning, specification development and presenting project activities.

About you

You will use your knowledge of electronic and physical first principles, analytical skills, practical experimentation, and simulation skills to take electronic systems from concepts through to production. Your keen eye for detail, excellent organisation and time management will be central to your role as a consultant, where you will have the opportunity to lead small projects, contribute to project planning, proposal writing, specification development and reporting on project activities.

Your skills and experience

Whilst you do not need to meet all of these points, please ensure you meet the majority of them before making an application.

  • A degree (2:1) or above in Electronics Engineering or associated course
  • Knowledge of analogue circuit design principles
  • Experience with 32-bit ARM micro-controllers (e.g. STM32)
  • A solid understanding of common wired and wireless communications protocols including I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE, USB, Ethernet etc.
  • An understanding of good practice in PCB layout
  • Confidence and authority when presenting approaches and decisions
  • Great people skills and an ability to collaborate in project teams
  • Commercial awareness and be able to manage your time within defined timescales
  • An ability to communicate with stakeholders internally and externally at all levels of a project and to see situations from their perspectives
Desirable experience
  • Experience of working in a consultancy environment
  • Medical device development experience including EN 60601
  • Experience with low power circuit design
  • Experience designing and testing for compliance, CE/FCC, EMC, radio, safety etc
  • Experience developing systems from concept to design for manufacture
  • Experience conducting FMEAs
  • Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Basic knowledge of embedded software development in C/C++

For this role we are considering a salary of up to £65,000. Please note we ask you to provide your expected salary as part of your application, this helps us understand how you view your experience against the role's scope.
