Job summary

GlobalTech Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Systems Engineer for a high-profile space programme in London. The role is a 6-month contract with hybrid work; two days per week on-site in London and the remainder remote.

You will contribute to electrical and avionics architecture, interfaces, requirements and system-level integration across development, verification and in-orbit operations.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
• 5+ years in space electrical engineering, ideally in systems, avionics, data handling or power electronics.
• Strong experience in system-level requirements engineering and electrical interfaces.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical engineering documentation.
• Experience working through engineering and programme lifecycles.
• Active participation in formal design reviews (PDR, CDR).
• Experience with system integration, verification and testing.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to join a high-profile, long term space programme based in London. The successful candidate will support the technical development of advanced spacecraft systems, with a particular focus on electrical and avionics architecture, interfaces, requirements and system-level integration.

This is an initial 6-month contract, with the role sitting within a 5-year programme, offering the opportunity to contribute to a technically challenging project across its development and integration lifecycle. The role is offered on a hybrid basis, requiring 2 days per week on-site in London, with the remainder worked remotely.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Systems Engineering

• Develop and maintain spacecraft electrical system and avionics architectures.
• Provide electrical systems engineering from initial specification through design, integration and test.
• Perform requirements engineering, including requirements analysis, allocation and flow-down/flow-up.
• Define and manage electrical interfaces between spacecraft subsystems and equipment.
• Support On-Board Data Handling, Electrical Power Systems, Satellite Communications, remote sensing and robotics teams.
• Support the definition and development of electrical and electronic test equipment.
• Define and support verification, validation and test plans.
• Contribute to system-level development, verification and AIV/T activities.
• Support spacecraft and electrical unit integration and testing.
• Investigate technical issues and support fault diagnosis and resolution.
• Produce technical documentation, engineering reports and verification evidence.
• Support system and spacecraft-level technical reviews.
• Contribute to operational documentation and procedures, including preparation for commissioning and in-orbit operations.

Requirements & Technical Documentation

• Develop, review and maintain system-level electrical requirements.
• Define and document electrical interfaces between units and subsystems.
• Contribute to technical specifications, design documentation, verification plans and engineering reports.
• Support FMEA and other system-level analysis activities.
• Ensure electrical engineering activities are appropriately documented throughout the project lifecycle.

Procurement & Supplier Management

• Support the preparation of Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for electrical and electronic hardware.
• Review supplier technical proposals and provide technical input to supplier selection.
• Provide technical supervision and support for subcontractors and external suppliers.
• Review and assess electrical aspects of spacecraft equipment developed by other disciplines.
• Support the delivery and acceptance of electrical system hardware.

Design & Development

• Contribute to the development of future electrical and avionics system architectures.
• Support detailed electronics design and development activities where required.
• Review electrical and electronic designs for compliance with system requirements.
• Support hardware development, build, integration and test.
• Contribute to design improvement and technical problem-solving throughout the programme.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant Electrical Engineering experience within the space industry, ideally in systems, avionics, data handling or power electronics.
• Strong experience in system-level requirements engineering and electrical interfaces.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical engineering documentation.
• Experience working through established engineering and programme lifecycles.
• Previous active participation in formal design reviews, such as PDR and CDR.
• Experience supporting system integration, verification and testing.
• Strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively across electrical, avionics, software, mechanical and systems engineering disciplines.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple technical activities simultaneously.

Desirable Experience

• Detailed understanding of electronics analysis, design, build and test.
• Hands-on electronics design and test experience.
• Experience with fault diagnosis and technical troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of ECSS, MIL standards and standards tailoring.
• Experience with EMC/EMI constraints, analysis and mitigation.
