Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in the UK or Ireland. You will work on groundbreaking HV substations and grid-scale projects, contributing from concept through energisation.

You’ll engage in design input for HV plant, substations, GIS/AIS switchgear, and collaborate with major utilities and hyperscalers. The role requires delivering engineering solutions across multiple projects, with opportunities to support renewable energy schemes such as battery storage,

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience of working on HV projects.
• Experience of working with major utilities or developers.
• Experience as a designer or as project engineer.
• Experience of developing specifications for substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear.
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects.
• Fluency in English.
• Experience in technical report writing.
• Full driving license and access to a personal vehicle as site visits may be required as part of this role.
• Ideally have experience of working on multi-discipline engineering projects.
• Ideally hold Chartered accreditation or working toward status.
• Ideally have consultancy experience.
• Ideally have experience in reviewing detailed designs & witnessing construction site activities.

• Produce equipment specifications for HV Plant and associated equipment
• Provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects
• Undertake an Owners’ Engineer role on HV substation/Cable and OHL projects
• Provide HV design input to renewable energy projects e.g., Battery storage, Solar, Hydro and Wind generation
• Provide professional services to clients in Ireland/UK and overseas

Are you ready to shape the future of energy infrastructure and be at the heart of a varied portfolio of groundbreaking projects? After an exciting period of growth, we are looking to hire an experienced and ambitious Senior Electrical Design Engineers who can be based in either the UK or Ireland.

You will have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking HV substation design projects, shaping grid-scale power infrastructure from concept through to energisation on projects that few engineers get the opportunity to be involved in! Your work will be varied, and you’ll be using your expertise to contribute to the success of major projects such as;

• National Grid’s ‘Great Grid Upgrade’ Great Grid Partnership: Enabling the UK’s energy transition


• Working with the world’s leading Hyperscalers and Data Centre Operators on forward-thinking, revolutionary projects.


• EirGrid AECOM appointed to EirGrid engineering design, planning and project management services framework
