Job summary

BPA - British Pipeline Agency Limited in Hemel Hempstead seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across electrical scopes for pipeline, terminal, and storage assets. You will define solutions for projects and operations with a focus on brownfield environments, ensuring safety, compliance, and practical implementation on live sites.

Collaborating with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you will guide from concept to commissioning, review design deliverables,

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
Experience delivering electrical solutions in high-hazard environments.
Experience in brownfield environments.
Knowledge of LV systems, MCCs, motors, VSDs, transformers, and hazardous area installations.
Ability to review contractor and vendor designs.
Strong technical judgement and risk management.
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) with IET.
Familiarity with HV/LV authorisation systems.

Responsibilities

Define electrical scopes, problem statements, and technical inputs for project development and approvals.
Lead or review key electrical deliverables such as SLDs, load assessments, protection studies, cable sizing, and earthing design.
Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, hazardous area requirements, and BPA procedures.
Provide technical assurance and input into design reviews across the project lifecycle.
Support the delivery of electrical elements of projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
Contribute to shutdown planning, energisation activities, and integration with live systems.
Work closely with asset teams to support fault finding, reliability improvement, and obsolescence management.
Assess and manage constraints associated with live operational sites, including outages, tie-ins, and temporary supplies.
Ensure solutions are practical, safe, and maintainable within high-hazard environments.
Act as the electrical focal point within multidisciplinary teams.
Review contractor and vendor designs, ensuring quality and compliance.
Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers where required.
Build effective relationships with stakeholders across engineering, operations, and delivery teams.
