A leading engineering solutions provider is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to oversee all aspects of electrical design and commissioning for various nuclear industry projects. The role requires collaboration with both internal and external teams to create innovative designs. Candidates should have a degree in a relevant engineering field and extensive knowledge in electrical systems, including CAD software. This position is based in Abingdon, UK, with flexible working options.

Job Description

Senior Electrical Engineers deliver all aspects of the Electrical design, manufacture and test/commissioning of VNS projects. They lead Engineering, manufacturing and support staff; developing creative, innovative and adaptive designs for a variety of clients in the Nuclear Industry.

Key elements of this role are:

  • Working closely with internal & external engineering staff to produce Electrical system designs for a variety of projects, including: precision positioning controls for Remote Handling systems, machinery controls, safety circuits and LV/ELV systems.
  • Developing and applying expertise in technologies such as programmable logic controllers, motion controls, distributed I/O and instrumentation.
  • Using Electrical CAD software such as Trimble (Amtech), PAScal and SEE Electrical to produce schematics, hook-ups and other Electrical design documentation.
  • Leading hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises.
  • Leading design reviews, system verification and validation.
  • Maintaining and updating engineering drawings and documentation on projects.
  • Working within VNS procedures and contributing to their development.
  • Designing in line with the relevant British, European, International and company standards.
  • Supporting physical commissioning activities and in-house test activities.

Because of the changing nature of our business the job description will inevitably change. The successful candidate will, from time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within their capabilities as directed by management.

Please note this role is required to start on 5th January 2026.

Qualifications
  • Good working knowledge of a CAD system (preferably SEE Electrical) and be able to produce Electrical detail drawings to required specifications/standards.
  • Ability to work reliably with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Use of MS Office or Google Workspace.
  • Background in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • Experienced leader, team player and excellent communicator.
  • Knowledge of Project Management/Engineering.
  • Working within a QA system.
  • Competence in at least two of the following areas:
    • Electrical Design.
    • Electrical cubicle/rack design.
    • Precision motion control using servo/stepper motors and actuators.
    • Safety circuits.
    • Low Voltage systems.
    • Programmable logic controllers.
    • Distributed I/O.
  • Technical document writing.
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering, or demonstrable engineering lead experience.
  • Engineering Council registration and membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Must be available to work at the Abingdon office at least 3 days per week (2 days working remotely).
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. This role requires specific technical skills and experience, and we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position.
